The Lorton Prison Stories Project

The Lorton Prison Stories Project is comprised of hundreds of photographs taken in the mid 1970s at the Lorton Reformatory, a medium security prison for convicted felons from DC. The project includes oral histories of a few former prisoners and one former administrator. The photographs were taken by photographer Nancy Shia, a law student at the time they were taken, and inmate photographer Roland Shelvy, a/k/a Breezy. The oral histories were recorded in 2013.
